ACTION REQUIRED: Seek Shelter as Strong Thunderstorm Hits South Walton

SOUTH WALTON COUNTY, FL – Residents in South Walton are advised to seek shelter immediately as a strong thunderstorm moves through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL has issued a Special Weather Statement at 8:58 PM CDT, effective until 9:15 PM CDT tonight, September 20.

Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm near Santa Rosa Beach, tracking southwest at 25 mph. This storm poses a hazard of wind gusts up to 50 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects.

Areas impacted include Santa Rosa Beach, Point Washington, Gulf Pines, Grayton Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Seagrove Beach, Seaside, Sandestin, Miramar Beach, and Four Mile Village.

Torrential rainfall is also expected, potentially leading to localized flooding. Drivers are cautioned not to enter flooded roadways. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring; remember that lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a storm. Seek safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
