Abused Pitbull Puppy Shelly Rescued from Flagler Ditch Amid Probe

Rescuers with the Saving Missing Animals Response Team (SMART) discovered the weak Pitbull puppy, now named Shelly, curled up and immobile in a muddy ditch at Shell Bluff Park in Flagler County last week. Covered in flies and maggots, she suffered severe systemic infections, open oozing wounds and cuts across her body after enduring days of heavy rainfall. 'She was found not even able to pick up her head. She wasn't able to walk or move; she was almost on her death bed,' said SMART volunteer Dr. Erka Equizi.[1] SMART volunteers rushed Shelly at dawn to East Coast Animal Hospital in Flagler County, where veterinarians provided around-the-clock treatment to stabilize her, clean wounds and manage pain.
