Strong Thunderstorms Bringing 55 MPH Winds to Curry, Roosevelt Counties
A Special Weather Statement warns Curry and Roosevelt County residents of strong thunderstorms bringing wind gusts up to 55 mph and potential flash flooding, effective until 8:45 PM MDT tonight.
Residents in Curry and Roosevelt Counties are advised to monitor weather conditions closely as a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Albuquerque NM.
The NWS reports a line of strong thunderstorms, tracked by Doppler radar, extends from near Saint Vrain to 9 miles southwest of Milnesand. This system is moving northeast at 35 mph.
The primary hazard identified is wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. These winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, which may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Locations impacted include Clovis, Portales, Texico, Melrose, Elida, Dora, Causey, Arch, Oasis State Park, and Pep. This also includes Highway 60 between Mile Markers 364 and 397.
The Special Weather Statement was issued at 8:19 PM MDT and is effective until 8:45 PM MDT tonight, September 29, 2026. Be alert for threatening weather conditions during this time.
