Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Coastal Gulf: Act Now!
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Gulf, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, with immediate action required due to life-threatening storm surge, hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Gulf, specifically impacting Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued this alert today, October 8, at 5:03 AM EDT, urging residents to complete preparations immediately.
Life-threatening storm surge flooding is possible, with a potential for 4-7 feet above ground, and up to 6 feet in surge-prone areas. The window of concern for storm surge is from Friday morning until Saturday morning. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately.
Hazardous winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, impassable roads due to debris, and scattered power outages. Major flooding from heavy rain is anticipated with an additional 3-6 inches of rainfall expected, and a Flood Watch is in effect. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings; if a warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
