Red Flag Warning Expires, Fire Weather Watch Issued for Saturday
A Red Flag Warning for parts of Wyoming expired tonight, but a Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Saturday due to anticipated wind and low humidity in specific areas.
The Red Flag Warning previously in effect for portions of Wyoming, including the Niobrara/Lower Elevations of Converse/Thunder Basin National Grassland, Middle North Platte River Basin/Niobrara and Converse High Plains, North Laramie Range and Adjacent High Plains, North Laramie Valley/Shirley Basin, Ferris/Seminoe/Shirley Mountains, Central and West Carbon, Upper North Platte River Basin, North Snowy Range Foothills, and Bordeaux/Chugwater/Wheatland areas, expired at 7:00 PM MDT this evening, October 9th.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne, WY, issued this update, noting that dropping temperatures and increased relative humidity have mitigated the immediate critical fire danger. However, a Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for Saturday afternoon, October 10th, for the Pine Ridge/Nebraska National Forest, Box Butte/South Sioux/Niobrara River, Lower North Platte River Basin/Scottsbluff National Monument, Lodgepole Creek/Southern Nebraska Panhandle, and Goshen/Middle-Lower North Platte River Basin due to anticipated wind and low relative humidity.
Residents in these areas should remain vigilant and prepared for elevated fire risk conditions on Saturday. No specific instructions were provided in the alert beyond the watch issuance.
