University of South Florida students are building career skills through the Disney College Program, working and training at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando. The program provides hands-on experience in hospitality, management, and performance, preparing students for future careers.

Brooke Hansen, associate director of USF’s Hospitality Management Program, said the program offers excellent skill development. "Students tell me the skill development they receive is stellar and there are so many ancillary benefits from workshops on personal finances to meeting people from around the world to soaking up the positive culture of Disney, where emotional and mental health are equally emphasized," Hansen said.

Currently, 28 USF students participate in the program, which attracts over 10,000 college students globally each year. Internships range from four months to a year, with starting pay of $19 per hour.

Ashley Baldwin, a recruiter for the program, described it as a comprehensive experience. "This program allows participants to step outside of their comfort zone, gain real-world experience, build a professional network and create memories that last a lifetime," Baldwin said.

Jamie Liepshutz, a USF management major who completed a four-month internship at the Emporium in Magic Kingdom, found the experience valuable. "It made me feel ready for the professional world," Liepshutz said. "I’m a very introverted person at heart, but being put in situations where I had to interact, had to network, had to carry on conversations with so many people really had an impact."

USF’s Hospitality Management Program has strong ties with Disney World, resulting in a 100% placement rate for hospitality students seeking internships there.

Students in the program receive perks including free entry to all Disney parks during their internship. USF students can apply for the Disney College Program for the upcoming spring semester.
