Medina Fekovic, a senior at USF St. Petersburg, is acquiring practical human resources experience through an internship at Bankers Financial Corporation. Fekovic, who majors in business management with a human resources concentration, has participated in onboarding employees, interviewing candidates and working with new technology systems.

The St. Petersburg native began her internship this spring. She progressed from assisting her manager to independently overseeing recruiting, onboarding and compliance processes. Fekovic also developed an ergonomic training program that she leads bi-weekly for employees and has built an internal library focused on professional growth.

The university's Bellini Center for Talent Development assisted Fekovic in refining her resume and exploring internship opportunities on Handshake. Her academic advisor, Julie Harding, also encouraged her to take a management internship course. Bellini Center career coach Andres Cintron noted Fekovic's commitment, saying she consistently sought feedback and utilized available resources.

Fekovic now represents Bankers Financial Corporation at career fairs, connecting students with opportunities and strengthening the relationship between the company and USF St. Petersburg. She will also discuss her internship experience at a Bankers Financial Group information session on November 2 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Her internship has been extended through December, when she is scheduled to graduate.
