Pinellas County urges residents to prepare for hurricane season

Hurricane season begins June 1. Pinellas County Emergency Management is urging residents to know their evacuation zone, make an evacuation plan and monitor weather updates.

Residents can find their evacuation zone at disaster.pinellas.gov, through the Ready Pinellas app or by calling (727) 464-3800. Anyone in a mobile home must evacuate when ordered. Residents who depend on electricity for medical equipment should also plan to evacuate.

People outside evacuation zones still face risks from rain and wind. Flood risk information is available at floodmaps.pinellas.gov.

Florida is offering sales tax exemptions on disaster preparedness items including batteries, tarps, gas containers and portable generators. A complete list is at disaster.pinellas.gov.

Residents with medical needs or requiring transportation assistance can register for the Special Needs Evacuation Program at disaster.pinellas.gov or (727) 464-3800.

The 2024 Hurricane Guide is available online and at Lealman Exchange, 5175 45th St. N. in St. Petersburg; The Centre, 1500 16th St. in Palm Harbor; Pinellas County libraries; municipal buildings and county government offices.

Boat owners can find preparation guidance at Pinellas.gov/BoatPrep. Businesses and organizations can join the Partners in Preparedness program at Pinellas.gov/EMpartners to share emergency information with their communities.

Residents can monitor emergency alerts through Pinellas County Government's Facebook, Instagram and X accounts, local news stations and the National Weather Service Tampa Bay forecast office. The Alert Pinellas notification system and Ready Pinellas app provide timely updates. Emergency officials recommend having a battery-operated or hand-crank NOAA weather radio.

Deaf and hard of hearing residents can contact the county via online chat at pinellas.gov/chat. Real-time updates are available at disaster.pinellas.gov.
