Oldsmar homeowners with storm-damaged roofs can apply for temporary repairs through Operation Blue Roof, a free program run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The program installs fiber-reinforced plastic sheeting at no cost once the Army Corps and Federal Emergency Management Agency designate an area as eligible. Homeowners must apply, have their damage evaluated, and meet program requirements before installation begins.
To qualify, the home must be the applicant's primary residence with no more than half the roof framing damaged. The structure must support the temporary sheeting, which installers nail into place. Homeowners must occupy the home during repairs. The program covers traditional shingles and considers metal roofs and mobile homes case-by-case. Homes with slate, asbestos, or clay tiles do not qualify due to installation risks.
Residents can apply by calling the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at (888) 766-3258 or visiting the Operation Blue Roof website. Army Corps members will not solicit participants.
