A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Pickens County, including Carrollton, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 10:17 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. This warning is set to expire today, October 9, at 6:30 PM UTC.

Residents should complete preparations now. Peak wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible, which could cause damage to outbuildings, break large tree limbs, and lead to scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated, especially on elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is possible, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and creeks may overflow, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
