A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Pickens County, including Carrollton, effective immediately by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This watch is in effect until 12:15 PM UTC today, October 9, 2026. Residents should plan for hazardous winds and moderate flooding potential.

The NWS forecasts peak winds between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, but warns of a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Potential impacts include damage to awnings and sheds, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Complete preparations before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is a significant concern, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and to prepare, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
