Residents of Pickens County, especially in the Carrollton area, need to complete preparations for hazardous wind and potential moderate flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham AL issued a Tropical Storm Watch on October 8 at 10:27 PM CDT, effective immediately and expiring October 9 at 6:30 AM UTC.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Plan for hazardous wind speeds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, and potential for 39-57 mph winds. Limited damage to property like porches, carports, and unsecured mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break and some trees to snap or uproot, potentially making roads impassable and causing scattered power outages. Act now to secure property.

Heavy rainfall of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Hazardous driving conditions are expected due to road and bridge closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected, but monitor forecasts for any changes. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
