Dust Storm Warning for Maricopa, Pinal Counties Until 1:45 PM MST
A Severe Dust Storm Warning is in effect for Maricopa and Pinal Counties until 1:45 PM MST today, October 10, with dangerous driving conditions expected due to low visibility and strong winds.
A Dust Storm Warning has been issued for Maricopa and Pinal Counties in Arizona, effective immediately until 1:45 PM MST today, October 10. The National Weather Service in Phoenix issued this warning at 1:03 PM MST.
At 1:03 PM MST, a wall of dust was reported along a line from near Luke AFB to 14 miles south of Maricopa, moving northeast at 30 mph. This dust storm is expected to cause less than a quarter mile visibility and strong winds exceeding 40 mph, leading to dangerous and life-threatening travel conditions.
Areas expected to be impacted include Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, Tempe, Peoria, Surprise, Avondale, Goodyear, Casa Grande, El Mirage, Paradise Valley, Tolleson, Youngtown, Laveen, Sun Lakes, and Cashion. Several highways are also affected, including segments of AZ Route 87, AZ Interstate 8, AZ Route 202, AZ Route 101, AZ Route 287, US Highway 60, AZ Interstate 17, AZ Route 51, AZ Interstate 10, AZ Route 238, AZ Route 303, and AZ Route 347.
If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the brake. To report hazardous dust conditions, contact the National Weather Service or your nearest law enforcement agency.
