Dust Advisory Issued for Maricopa: Hazardous Travel Expected

A Dust Advisory has been issued for Maricopa, Arizona, effective immediately until 12:45 PM MST today, October 10. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ reports a wall of dust moving northeast at 30 mph, posing hazardous travel conditions.
At 12:29 PM MST, the dust wall was located from 9 miles southwest of Estrella Mountain Ranch to 10 miles south of Freeman. Visibility is expected to be less than one mile. The NWS indicates this could impact Buckeye, Estrella, Sonoran National Monument, Big Horn, Freeman, and Mobile.
Highways affected include AZ Interstate 8 between mile markers 131 and 140, AZ Route 85 between mile markers 134 and 143, and AZ Route 238 between mile markers 10 and 19.
If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the brake. Additionally, blowing dust can be unhealthy and has been linked to Valley Fever; avoid outdoor exposure.
