Preparing Your Pets for an Emergency
Preparing Your Pets for an Emergency Does your pet have permanent identification? If not, schedule an appointment with us to get your pet a FREE microchip. Is your pet's permanent identification up to date with the microchip company, including alternate contacts? Does your pet have a tag so that any person who finds your pet can easily contact you? Do you have an emergency kit for all of your pet's essential needs? See resources listed below for tips on putting together a kit. Tip: don't rely on technology for pictures and important documents, as access may be impacted by the emergency. Training and socialization: what skills do you and your pet need to practice so that evacuations can be done safely? Emergencies bring unexpected situations. The more positive experiences that you can provide your pet outside of the home, the more likely they will adjust calmly to change. Make an Evacuation Plan How will you evacuate your pets? Do you have the kennels, trailers, etc. needed in that event? If not, do you have a contact who is ready to assist you? Do you have friends/family located in a different part of town who would house your pets in the event of an evacuation? Are you able to help others who may not have somewhere to bring their pets?
