A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, effective immediately as of 6:57 AM CDT on October 9. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, states that hazardous wind and moderate flooding rain are expected.

Residents in Perry County, specifically Marion, should plan for potential winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts up to 55 mph. Preparations to protect property should be completed as soon as possible, and individuals should move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to unanchored structures, broken tree limbs, power outages, and impassable roads from debris.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Two to four inches of rain are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible, leading to potential moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Potential impacts include swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and flooded roads, leading to hazardous driving conditions and some road closures.

The Tropical Storm Watch is set to expire at 3:00 PM UTC (10:00 AM CDT) on October 9. Tornadoes are not expected at this time, but showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
