Beach Hazards & Coastal Flood Alert for Pender, New Hanover Co. Shores
A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover counties until this evening, warning of strong currents, rip currents, and minor coastal flooding.
A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory have been issued for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover counties until this evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington NC.
The Beach Hazards Statement is effective until 8:00 PM EDT today, October 6. It warns of strong north to south longshore currents and a moderate risk of rip currents. Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards for possible hazards before entering the ocean.
The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 7:00 PM EDT today, October 6. Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Low-lying roads and areas along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may experience minor coastal flooding.
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Local officials should be consulted for road closures or impacts.
