FLAGSTAFF, AZ – A Wind Advisory has been issued for all of central and northern Arizona, urging residents to secure loose outdoor objects and exercise caution, especially those driving high-profile vehicles. The advisory is effective immediately, October 9, 2026, at 11:53 AM MST, and is expected to remain in effect until 8:00 PM MST on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Flagstaff is forecasting south winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. This advisory impacts a wide area including Apache, Navajo, Coconino, Yavapai, and northern Gila counties. Specific areas affected include the Kaibab Plateau, Grand Canyon Country, Coconino Plateau, Yavapai County Mountains, Chinle Valley, Chuska Mountains, Little Colorado River Valley, Mogollon Rim, White Mountains, and Oak Creek and Sycamore Canyons.
These strong winds can make driving difficult, particularly for RVs, campers, and tractor trailers. Residents are advised to use extra caution on the roads. Additionally, gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects and could lead to snapping tree limbs, potentially causing power outages.
