Strong Storms Near Gold Canyon: Gusty Winds and Hail Expected

A Special Weather Statement is in effect until 5:45 PM MST today for Gold Canyon, Apache Junction, Queen Creek, and surrounding areas, warning of strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail.

Residents in Gold Canyon, Apache Junction, Queen Creek, and surrounding areas should monitor weather conditions closely. A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service Phoenix AZ until 5:45 PM MST today, September 24.

At 4:59 PM MST, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm 8 miles north of Queen Valley, moving west at 20 mph. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail. Gusty winds could cause minor damage to outdoor objects, knock down tree limbs, and blow around unsecured items.

The affected areas include Rio Verde/Salt River, East Valley, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, Southeast Valley/Queen Creek, Superior, Northwest Pinal County, Apache Junction/Gold Canyon, and the Pinal/Superstition Mountains. Specific locations impacted are Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Queen Creek, Superstition Mountains, Lost Dutchman State Park, Goldfield, Canyon Lake, Queen Valley, Saguaro Lake, and Tortilla Flat.
