Southern Harrison County, including Gulfport, Biloxi, Pass Christian, and Long Beach, is under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:12 AM CDT. Residents must complete preparations now for hazardous winds and life-threatening storm surge.

Wind speeds are forecast to reach 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Potential impacts include limited damage to light structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Act now to complete preparations before winds become hazardous.

A life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. Potential impacts from the main surge event are unfolding.

Localized flooding rain is possible, and emergency plans should include this potential. Heed any flood watches and warnings. The tornado threat is low, and no tornadoes are expected. For more information, visit www.msema.org.
