A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Northern Harrison County, including Lyman and Saucier, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:02 AM CDT. The National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, advises residents to complete all preparations now as hazardous wind conditions are expected.
Forecasts indicate peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured property like porches, awnings, and sheds is possible, along with broken tree limbs and some downed trees. Scattered power and communications outages are also anticipated. Driving conditions may become hazardous on bridges and elevated roadways, with some roads potentially impassable due to debris.
While no additional significant rainfall is forecast, localized flooding from heavy rain remains a possibility. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings. Small streams and ditches may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Ponding of water is expected in low-lying areas, potentially causing brief road closures.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. The Tropical Storm Warning is set to expire on October 9 at 6:15 PM CDT. For further information and updates, visit msema.org.
