Pasco Sheriff's Office: Complaint & Commendation Process

The Pasco Sheriff's Office has outlined its process for investigating misconduct allegations against agency members. The Professional Standards Unit or a supervisor will investigate complaints, depending on the nature and severity of the alleged offense, according to the office's General Orders.

The Sheriff's Office stated it thoroughly investigates all misconduct allegations with objectivity, gathering pertinent information professionally for a fair assessment. This process aims to maintain public trust and accountability within the agency, regardless of where an incident occurs within Pasco County.

The office also detailed its Bias Profiling Policy. Deputies must patrol and enforce laws proactively. They will only stop or detain citizens when reasonable suspicion or probable cause exists for a violation of law. The Pasco Sheriff's Office explicitly prohibits bias profiling, which is defined as making law enforcement decisions based on personal biases or stereotypes instead of observed behavior or criminal activity.

Citizens who believe they have experienced bias profiling, such as being stopped or searched based on race, ethnicity, or gender, are encouraged to file a complaint. The Sheriff's Office assures that no person will face discouragement, intimidation, coercion, or discrimination for filing a complaint.
