Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Greene and Craighead Counties

Residents in Greene and Craighead counties should be aware of a strong thunderstorm currently impacting the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, TN, has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective until 10:45 PM CDT tonight, September 21.

As of 9:54 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm over Hoxie, moving southeast at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts between 50 to 55 mph and pea-sized hail. Gusty winds could cause downed tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to vegetation from hail is also possible.

Affected locations include, but are not limited to, Jonesboro, Paragould, Bono, Crowleys Ridge State Park, Lake Frierson State Park, Cash, Egypt, and Walcott. If you are outdoors in these areas, consider seeking shelter inside a building until the storm passes.
