Babcock Ranch Residents Asked to Protect Natural Preserves

PALM BEACH GARDENS – Babcock Ranch residents are reminded to protect the community's natural preserves by refraining from dumping organic materials, including food scraps, pet waste, and yard clippings. Christa Kontos, Environmental Mitigation Manager for Babcock Ranch, stressed the importance of environmental respect for maintaining natural harmony. The preserves are managed for ecological function and wildlife habitat in compliance with permitting requirements.

Kontos stated that dumping attractants like organic materials draws wildlife, such as wild hogs, which can then damage preserves and residential yards. She urged residents to use designated trail systems for viewing the preserves, ensuring their safety and the well-being of local flora and fauna.

Kontos also addressed wildlife feeding. While backyard bird feeders are permitted, residents should bring them inside at night if they begin attracting animals like wild hogs or black bears. Feeding wild animals, including deer, can lead to property damage and nuisance wildlife. Feeding alligators can cause them to lose their natural fear of humans, potentially leading to their death.
