The Town of Palm Beach Fire Prevention and Life Safety Division educates residents on fire safety practices and identifies and mitigates hazardous conditions. The division operates under the Fire Marshal and includes two Fire Inspectors and an Office Assistant II.
Working with the Town’s Planning, Zoning, and Building Department, the division reviews construction plans and ensures code compliance for new and renovated properties. It also issues permits for building construction, bonfires and fireworks. Residents can find detailed information in the Fire Prevention Code.
The division promotes the Knox-Box® Rapid Entry System, which allows Palm Beach Fire Rescue to access properties without forced entry during emergencies. Property owners can order a Knox-Box by visiting the Knox Corp website or contacting the Fire Prevention and Life Safety Division at 561-227-6440.
The division also manages Special Assignment Overtime (SAO) requests for events or large gatherings requiring fire and emergency medical services. The requesting party funds these services, which must be in the Town's best interest. Requests require a Special Assignment Overtime Contract and final acceptance by the Fire Marshal.
Additionally, the division enforces fire watch protocols when required fire alarm systems are out of service, ensuring continuous safety for building occupants.
