Palm Beach Fertilizer Ban Protects Waterways Through October
Palm Beach will prohibit certain fertilizers from June 1 through October 1 under a new town ordinance designed to protect local waterways and support statewide efforts to prevent harmful algae blooms.
The ban applies to private properties and public parks. Town officials say the restrictions will improve water quality across South Florida and protect native ecosystems.
The fertilizer ordinance is part of Palm Beach's Green Initiative, which also includes an educational program called "Where Have All The Songbirds Gone?" The program, which began in 2018 through a partnership with the Garden Club of Palm Beach and the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, teaches residents how to create gardens with native plants that sustain butterfly and bird populations while reducing the need for pesticides.
Residents seeking details on the initiative can contact the Palm Beach Civic Association's Environmental Committee, the Garden Club of Palm Beach, the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, or consult the Town of Palm Beach Code of Ordinances.
