Palm Beach County Invests $25,000 in Enhanced Beach Accessibility at Phil Foster Park

Palm Beach County significantly boosted beach accessibility at Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach with the addition of new equipment. The Board of County Commissioners approved a $25,000 grant for the initiative, which funded the purchase of five beach wheelchairs and a rubberized beach access mat.

This new equipment, available at Phil Foster Park, helps individuals with mobility challenges access the beach and water. The state-of-the-art beach wheelchairs navigate sand and float in water, allowing users direct water access for activities like snorkeling, popular at the park. The rubberized beach mat, a Mobi-Mat, measures five feet wide and extends 50 feet from the sidewalk, providing easy access to the beach on the park's south side for those using wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

Palm Beach County Mayor Robert Weinroth announced the grant approval. He stated, "Having state-of-art equipment available is important in ensuring everyone, no matter their age or ability, easy access to our waterfront parks."

The county has similar accessibility equipment at other beach parks, including Carlin Park, Jupiter Beach Park, and Ocean Cay Park. The new equipment at Phil Foster Park became available before the end of 2022.
