Acreage Residents Battle Widespread Flooding; Up to 10 Inches Reported as More Rain Looms

Acreage residents are grappling with widespread flooding after more than nine inches of rain fell last Thursday, followed by additional heavy rainfall on Saturday. Roads, swales, and canals throughout the neighborhood overflowed, creating significant challenges for homeowners.

The persistent water has made daily life difficult for many. Resident Arlene Rodriguez described her home as having a "moat" after water levels rose dramatically. "We left yesterday at around 11/11:30 and we still had a driveway and we came home at 2/2:30 and we were underwater. It was just insane," Rodriguez said. She reported that water in her front yard reached as much as 10 inches deep in some areas. Neighbor Erik Mack also faced access issues, stating, "I can't get in and out of the driveway with the vehicles." Mack found a temporary solution, using a golf cart to navigate to and from his parked cars outside his driveway.

Emergency response efforts are underway, with crews actively working to pump water from flooded streets and yards. However, these efforts have faced interruptions due to lightning delays. Elizabeth Accomando of the Indian Trail Improvement District confirmed that while all personnel are deployed, they must cease operations and seek shelter in their trucks during lightning activity.

Community members are also raising concerns about prevention. Erik Mack suggested that proactive measures, such as clearing culverts, could mitigate future flooding. "There's culverts under here and they all get blocked so if they do stuff like that. They don't have to worry about doing it after the fact," Mack commented. Arlene Rodriguez noted the extensive nature of the problem, observing, "There's just water everywhere. It's just everywhere I go the streets are flooded." Despite the challenging conditions, Rodriguez's home has so far avoided the worst of the damage, though she remains anxious about potential future rainfall.

The forecast indicates a continued threat of rain this weekend, which could further exacerbate the current flooding situation. Residents should remain vigilant and prepare for additional water accumulation.
