
Boca Raton Gives Key to City to Panthers Captain Aleksander Barkov
Boca Raton awarded Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov the Key to the City on Thursday, recognizing his long-standing connection to the community where he has lived and played since age 18.

Boca Raton officially recognized Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov on Thursday, presenting him with the Key to the City. Mayor Andy Thomson bestowed the honor during a ceremony celebrating notable figures who contribute to the community.
Barkov, who has lived in Boca Raton since beginning his NHL career at 18, expressed his strong connection to the city. "This is a special place for me," he said, noting his two homes are Finland and Boca Raton.
When asked about his favorite spots, Barkov highlighted the city's natural beauty and recreational activities. He praised the beaches, numerous parks with tennis courts, and diverse restaurants. Mizner Park also earned his admiration.
Panthers television play-by-play announcer Steve Goldstein emceed the event, which drew many fans. Barkov, currently sidelined with a leg injury for an estimated 6-8 weeks, remains optimistic about his return. "I'm in good hands. We have a great team. We have good doctors, they take really good care of me, so I'm really lucky about that," he told WPTV's Mike Trim.
