Residents in Northwestern Nye County, including Round Mountain, Carvers, and Hadley, should seek sturdy shelter immediately as a strong thunderstorm is approaching. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Elko, NV, issued a Special Weather Statement at 6:34 PM PDT on October 11, indicating radar tracking a thunderstorm 12 miles west of Round Mountain, moving northeast at 25 mph.

The primary hazards associated with this storm are wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail. Impacts could include heavy rainfall, which may lead to localized flooding, and gusty winds capable of knocking down tree limbs and displacing unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible. The NWS advises against driving through flooded roadways.

This storm also presents frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm; therefore, individuals should seek safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Campers in the affected area are strongly advised to seek sturdy shelter until the storm passes. The Special Weather Statement is effective until 7:00 PM PDT on October 11.
