Freeze Watch and Wind Advisory Issued for Esmeralda and Central Nye County
A Freeze Watch and Wind Advisory have been issued for Esmeralda and Central Nye County, with sub-freezing temperatures possible and strong winds expected, prompting residents to secure outdoor objects and protect plants and pipes.
Residents of Esmeralda and Central Nye County should prepare for a Freeze Watch and a Wind Advisory. The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV has issued a Freeze Watch effective from late Monday night, October 12, through Tuesday morning, October 13, with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit possible. A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 5 AM PDT Monday, October 12, with south winds 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph.
Property owners should secure outdoor objects to prevent them from being blown away. Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution due to strong winds. For the Freeze Watch, take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly.
The NWS warns that gusty winds could lead to blown-down tree limbs and potential power outages. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and potentially affect unprotected outdoor plumbing.
