Farmingdale High School Students Build Custom Game Board for Library Seniors

A concentrated silence fell over the Farmingdale High School wood shop as a ShopBot CNC machine began its precise descent, engraving the intricate details of a custom horse race game board. This moment marked the beginning of a unique partnership between local students and members of the Farmingdale Public Library Seniors Group. A Collaborative Design Process The project began when the Farmingdale Public Library reached out to our students for help in creating a specialized game board. Moving beyond a simple classroom assignment, the students took ownership of the entire manufacturing process. They programmed advanced technology, including a CNC laser cutter to produce custom stencils for the horse heads, ensuring each piece met the high standards required for community play. Bridging Generations The impact of this project extends far beyond the finished wooden board. By applying their technical skills to a real-world request, students experienced the value of service and the power of intergenerational collaboration. This partnership allowed the high schoolers to use their expertise to enhance the social activities of local seniors, turning raw materials into a source of joy. Looking Toward the Future As the finished game board moves to its new home at the library, the district remains committed to finding more ways for students to engage with the Farmingdale community. These hands-on experiences prepare students for future careers while reinforcing the importance of being an active, helpful neighbor.

Saltzman East Memorial Elementary Honors Local First Responders and Military

Small hands gripped the edges of handmade banners as students lined the sidewalk, waiting for the first siren to signal the start of the celebration. The Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School community stood together to honor local first responders and military members during our annual appreciation parade. The morning air was filled with cheers as students and staff waved flags to show their gratitude for those who serve the community. This event allows our students to connect with local heroes and understand the importance of service. These shared moments of thanks build a foundation of respect that our students carry with them long after the parade ends.

Superintendent Updates Farmingdale Families on Budget and Check Distribution

Hello, Farmingdale Family! I have two quick budget-related updates to share with you on this beautiful Spring Day: Town of Babylon Check Distribution Good news for our Town of Babylon residents: the first batch of checks is scheduled to go out this week. Please keep in mind that this is a large-scale process that will take some time to complete accurately. If you have specific questions, our friends at the Town of Babylon are the best point of contact. Budget Information & Communication Budget Videos: As we head toward the May vote, you'll notice an increase in our short budget videos. To be honest, I've resisted this format for years; I worry that 45-second clips can feel a bit like a "sales pitch" and oversimplify a very complex topic. However, I've also realized that many of you don't have the time for hour-long meetings. We are using these videos to clarify some important facts while respecting your busy schedules, even if they can't replace the deeper conversations I truly prefer. Newsletter: Look for a comprehensive budget newsletter arriving in your mail in early May. We will also send it out electronically at around that same time. Small Group Chats: I recently had a wonderful, hour-long sit-down with two residents to discuss their budget concerns. It was incredibly productive and reminded us of the value of these connections. One resident has even offered to help coordinate future meetings. If you'd like to participate in a similar small-group discussion, please reach out to Mike Motisi at [email protected]. He will be coordinating these gatherings over the coming weeks. Live Presentations: These videos, the newsletter, and the small-group chats are just supplements to our traditional outreach. We are conducting nearly 20 live budget presentations for various civic groups, including our local senior citizens, who, I must admit, are my personal favorite group to visit! Thank you for your continued engagement and support! See You Around Town, Paul

Woodward Parkway Elementary Brings Disney Frozen to Life

"The stage transformed into a winter wonderland as the Woodward Parkway Theater Club brought the magic of Arendelle to life in their production of Disney Frozen KIDS. Student performers filled the stage for multiple enchanting shows on April 29, 2026, delivering high-energy performances during daytime shows for the student body and two evening shows for families and friends. Finding Magic in Performance The production went beyond simple storytelling; it served as a platform for students to build confidence and community. Director Emilie D'Andrilli and Musical Director Nicole Nappi led a dedicated cast and crew through months of preparation. Director Mrs. D'Andrilli shared her pride in the students' growth, noting that "watching these young performers find their voices and support one another has been the most rewarding part of this journey." Mrs. Nappi added that from the very first rehearsal, the experience was deeply meaningful, fostering a space where "making music together is the best way for two people to become friends". Student Impact and Collaboration The success of the show relied on a massive collaborative effort. High school volunteers from Farmingdale High School worked alongside elementary students, providing mentorship and technical support. This partnership highlighted the strong bond within the district and the invaluable role of the PTA, staff, and parents in supporting the arts. Looking Toward the Future As the final notes of the "Finale" faded, the performers left the stage with more than just applause. They carried with them new friendships and the pride of a job well done. The Woodward Parkway Theater Club continues to provide a vital outlet for creativity, ensuring that the next generation of performers is ready to take their next bow."
