A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Dale County, including Ozark and Fort Rucker, from October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC, with dangerous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes expected.
DALE COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, Florida has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Dale County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT. This severe warning impacts Ozark and Fort Rucker, and is set to expire on October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.
Residents should prepare for dangerous wind, potential major flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes. Peak wind gusts are forecast to reach up to 55 mph, with potential for strong tropical storm force winds between 58 to 73 mph. Significant damage to property, including roofing, siding, mobile homes, and trees, is anticipated. Power and communications outages are also expected. Remaining efforts to protect life and property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with additional rainfall of 2-4 inches expected, leading to potential major flooding. This could cause widespread evacuations and rescues, and make many roads impassable. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense, having larger damage paths. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued.
