CDC Advisory Committee Recommends Tdap Vaccine for All Pregnant Women

The Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted 14 to 0, with one abstention, to recommend Tdap immunization for all pregnant women. Prenatal care providers should implement a Tdap immunization program.

According to the recommendation, health-care personnel should administer a dose of the Tdap vaccine during each pregnancy. This recommendation applies regardless of the patient's prior history of receiving the Tdap vaccine.

In cases where the vaccine is not administered during pregnancy, the recommendation states that Tdap should be administered immediately postpartum.
