La Paloma Funeral Services Offers Aftercare Support

Dealing with the death of someone close to you is one of the hardest things most of us will go through. We know your grief, and your responsibilities, won’t end after the funeral service. Support shouldn’t either. La Paloma Funeral Services is committed to guiding families through funeral arrangements, and now that care and guidance extends beyond the service, thanks to La Paloma Aftercare. La Paloma Aftercare helps families navigate the many essential tasks that follow a loss. Estate specialists assist with claiming benefits, making necessary notifications and protecting against fraud — so families can focus on healing instead of paperwork. Losing a loved one comes with an overwhelming list of responsibilities. Settling an estate can take 12 to 18 months, and families are put through additional stress as they worry about missing something important. La Paloma Aftercare provides expert support to walk you through matters like: Securing death certificates Navigating life insurance Applying for Social Security Understanding pensions Claiming investments Notifying employers Notifying creditors These are just the basics. La Paloma Aftercare can also help you claim assets your loved one may not have even known about. In the U.S. alone, $70 billion sits in state-managed, unclaimed property funds. After a death, unclaimed property is frequently overlooked because families aren’t aware it exists. These funds can include forgotten accounts, refunds or other assets that were never claimed or updated over time. La Paloma Aftercare is included in all La Paloma Funeral Services packages at no additional cost. And yes, if you used another funeral service provider locally or overseas, you can still sign up for La Paloma Aftercare for a nominal fee. For more information, visit https://lapalomafuneralservices.com/resources/aftercare .

TMCC offers over 70 programs of study that lead to more than 160 degree, certificate and other completion options. TMCC provides a wealth of information and resources. Offering professional success and personal enrichment courses that serve everyone in our community, from children and teens to adults and esteemed elders. Truckee Meadows Community College is northern Nevada's jobs college, preparing qualified students for jobs in industries right here in Nevada. Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) named Sophie Moeller as the Alumna of the Year for 2026. During TMCC's Commencement Ceremony, Moeller delivered remarks to graduates and received special recognition for this achievement. TMCC President Jeffrey Alexander said Moeller's accomplishments exemplify the transformative role community colleges play in the region. “Sophie’s story is a powerful reflection of the impact that our college has on students, families, and our entire community.” Originally from Massachusetts, Moeller moved West in 2008, and Reno became home.  Diagnosed with ADHD in the late 1990s, she struggled academically and grew to loathe school. She faced further challenges with substance use throughout her 20s, but at age 32, she found sobriety. This turning point gave her the clarity and courage to enroll at TMCC. “By leaning into TMCC’s student resources, I rediscovered my love for academic learning,” recalls Moeller. She flourished as a student, joining Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society before graduating with her Associate of Arts degree in 2022. Moeller, a leader in the local non-profit community, is passionate about holistic health and expanding access to healthy lifestyles and the outdoors. She currently serves as Development Director for Achieve Tahoe, advancing opportunities for people with disabilities to experience outdoor recreation—an effort that comes full circle from her start as a volunteer ski instructor in 2008. She also founded a Reno-based stepparent support group to strengthen connections among blended families. Outside of her work, Moeller pursues the arts on stage and screen and lives with her husband and two stepchildren. She strives to model resilience through hard work, accepting help, and showing up. For more information, see the TMCC Alumni of the Year or contact Foundation and Sponsored Programs.   TMCC Marketing and Communications
