Freeze Watch Issued for Moses Lake: Protect Plants, Drive Safely
A Freeze Watch has been issued for the Moses Lake area from Monday evening through Tuesday morning, with temperatures as low as 29F, prompting calls to protect plants and plumbing; a Blowing Dust Advisory is also in effect until 5 PM today, requiring careful driving.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Spokane has issued a Freeze Watch for the Moses Lake area, effective from Monday evening, October 12, through Tuesday morning, October 13. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 degrees Fahrenheit are possible. This could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
In addition to the Freeze Watch, a Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect until 5 PM PDT this afternoon, October 11, for Quincy, Othello, Moses Lake, and Ephrata. Patchy to localized areas of blowing dust are expected, with visibility dropping to between one-quarter and one mile at times. Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are anticipated. Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility are a concern.
If you encounter blowing dust or sand on the roadway, or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn your lights completely off and keep your foot off the brake pedal. Remember, 'Pull Aside, Stay Alive'. Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility to a mile or less.
