Dr. Charles "Chuck" Smith will lead Booker High School as its new principal starting July 1, 2024. Sarasota County Schools announced the appointment.

Smith most recently served as principal of Bayshore High School in Manatee County Schools, where he focused on school environment and academic performance. He previously worked in Sarasota County Schools as an assistant principal at Sarasota High School.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Smith to Booker High School," said Dr. Brennan Asplen, Superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. "His proven leadership, dedication to students, and passion for education make him an ideal choice to lead Booker High School into its next chapter. We are confident that he will build upon the school's strong foundation and continue to foster an environment of academic excellence and community engagement."

Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Florida.

"I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Booker High School community," Dr. Smith said. "Booker High School has a rich history and a strong sense of pride, much like the communities it serves along the coast from Siesta Key to Nokomis. I look forward to working collaboratively with the dedicated faculty, staff, students, parents, and the wider community to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential."
