A man died Saturday night after walking on railroad tracks in the Kissimmee area and being struck by an Amtrak train. The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near Michigan Avenue and Garden Street.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported the man was walking north along the tracks just west of Michigan Avenue. The train conductor applied the emergency brake, but the train could not stop in time to avoid the collision.

The man died at the scene. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew on the train. Authorities have not released the deceased’s identity.

The crash remains under investigation.

Amtrak and local law enforcement urge the public to stay clear of railway property, which is private and dangerous. People should use designated crossings, especially with increased rail traffic in Central Florida.
