Orange County Mosquito Control conducted aerial spraying in Apopka and Pine Hills following confirmation of five locally transmitted dengue fever cases in the region. The Florida Department of Health identified four cases in Apopka and one in Pine Hills.
Spraying began at 7 p.m. Friday, October 16, and continued Saturday, October 17, at 7 p.m. after thunderstorms delayed some treatments. Residents in affected areas may have observed low-flying aircraft conducting the operations.
In Apopka, Orange County treated neighborhoods near U.S. Highway 441, Main Street, and Park Avenue, as well as South Apopka, Clarcona, Paradise Heights, and areas north of Lake Apopka. In Pine Hills, crews treated residential zones near West Colonial Drive and North Pine Hills Road, West Washington Street, and the Bel-Aire Woods and Orlo Vista communities.
County officials said no additional precautions are necessary for pets, livestock, or gardens. The materials used are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Residents can follow Orange County on social media, visit its arbovirus monitoring webpage, or sign up for alerts through OC Alert for updates on dengue cases and spraying schedules.
