The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for canned chicken Vienna-style sausage products illegally imported into the United States from Jamaica. Consumers should check their pantries for these items, purchased from grocery stores or specialty shops.

Jamaica is not an eligible country for exporting meat or poultry products into the U.S., according to an FSIS news release. The alert covers 140-gram cans of “GRACE READY TO EAT CHICKEN VIENNA SAUSAGES” and “GRACE READY TO EAT CHICKEN VIENNA SAUSAGES HOT & SPICY.” Both products bear the establishment number “EST. NO G-01” within the Jamaica mark of inspection.

The importer distributed these products to retail locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and Texas. FSIS identified the issue during routine surveillance of imported products in commerce. No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with these sausage products.

FSIS advises consumers to dispose of the affected products immediately or return them to the place of purchase. For questions regarding this alert, contact Sandra Campbell at 305-887-9523 or [email protected].
