Diane Marie Eberly, 82, a former longtime Greenwich resident and cherished "Nanny," died Oct. 1 in Danbury. A memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 16.

Diane Marie Eberly, 82, a former longtime resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, died Oct. 1, 2026, in Danbury, Connecticut. She was known as "Nanny" to her grandchildren.
Born Nov. 3, 1943, in Greenwich, she was the youngest of four daughters of William and Helen Ponger. She lived most of her life in Greenwich, where she met and married Bob Eberly Jr. They moved to Danbury in 1994 and had two sons, Grayson and Timothy Eberly.
Mrs. Eberly was a master crocheter and knitter. She enjoyed musicals, British comedies and murder mysteries. She loved crossword puzzles and reading, and she drank coffee throughout the day. She also made spicy homemade pasta.
After her husband died in 2016, Mrs. Eberly faced significant health challenges, including stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma, a stem cell transplant, chemotherapy, seizures and hydrocephalus. She battled dementia for more than seven years.
She is reunited with her husband, Bob; her sisters Jane Insinga and Doris Benedict; her parents; and beloved pets.
A memorial service will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich.
