Opa-locka Boulevard Detour Continues for SR 916 Project, Affecting NW Commutes

Opa-locka residents continue to navigate a temporary road closure and detour along northwest Opa-locka Boulevard, part of the ongoing State Road (SR) 916/NW 135 Street/NW 136 Street Roadway Project. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) implemented the second of three temporary closures on December 17, 2024.

This current phase of the project affects daily commutes for many in the area. The closure and detour are necessary as FDOT works on the SR 916 project, which aims to improve the roadway infrastructure. This particular phase began after the completion of the new southeast-bound portion of the Opa-locka Boulevard Connector.

The SR 916/NW 135 Street/NW 136 Street Roadway Project is a significant undertaking by FDOT to enhance traffic flow and safety in the region. Residents should continue to plan for extra travel time and follow the marked detour signs.

The closure, which started in late 2024, remains in effect. FDOT oversees the project. Further updates regarding the third and final phase of temporary closures will be communicated as they become available.
