URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge for Coastal Dixie Through Saturday Morning
A Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, warns of life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground through Saturday morning, requiring immediate evacuation readiness and flood preparations.
Coastal Dixie residents, including those in Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, face an immediate and extreme threat from a Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations must be completed immediately.
If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts are expected, including inundation, damage to coastal buildings, washed-out sections of escape routes, major beach erosion, and damage to marinas.
Additional rainfall of 1-3 inches is expected, with localized higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues due to swollen rivers and overflowing small streams. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
A few tornadoes are also possible. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to safe shelter. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. Winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, with gusts up to 30 mph, posing little to no impact.
