Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Flooding Expected in Coastal Dixie
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, with life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning; residents should complete evacuations and flood preparations immediately.
Coastal Dixie residents, particularly those in Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, face an immediate and extreme threat from a Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Life-threatening storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed now as conditions will become unsafe.
If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services or needlessly risking lives. Significant impacts are anticipated, including damage to buildings near the coast, weakened or washed-out escape routes, major beach erosion, and damage to marinas and piers.
Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with an additional 1-3 inches of rainfall, potentially higher in some areas. Emergency plans should account for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes, and residents should be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
Wind speeds are forecast to remain below tropical storm force, with peak gusts of 20-35 mph. While little to no impact is expected from wind, residents should ensure emergency readiness in case the forecast changes.
