Extreme Wind Warning for Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa until 8:45 PM CDT
An Extreme Wind Warning is in effect for Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa Counties until 8:45 PM CDT, urging residents to take immediate shelter from life-threatening hurricane-force winds.
TAKE COVER NOW! The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued an Extreme Wind Warning for southern Okaloosa, southern Santa Rosa, and southeastern Escambia Counties in northwestern Florida. This warning is in effect until 8:45 PM CDT tonight, October 9.
As of 5:44 PM CDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar and hurricane aircraft reconnaissance indicate extremely dangerous winds, associated with the eyewall of Hurricane Isaias, are moving onshore. These winds are along a line extending from 18 miles south of Pensacola Beach to 11 miles south of Mary Esther to 17 miles south of Santa Rosa Beach, moving north at 15 mph. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION!
Treat these imminent extreme winds as if a tornado were approaching. Move immediately to the safe room in your shelter. Take action now to protect your life! The safest place to be during a major landfalling hurricane is in a reinforced interior room away from windows. Get under a table or other piece of sturdy furniture. Use mattresses, blankets or pillows to cover your head and body. Remain in place through the passage of these life-threatening conditions.
Locations impacted include Pensacola, Ferry Pass, Brent, West Pensacola, Wright, Fort Walton Beach, Ensley, Warrington, Niceville, Destin, Eglin AFB, Pace, Milton, Valparaiso, Gulf Breeze, Goulding, Mary Esther, Bagdad, Ocean City, and Lake Lorraine.
