Dangerous rip currents and high surf are expected along the coasts of Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties through Sunday, October 11, with a High Surf Advisory active until 3 PM CDT today, October 10. Inexperienced swimmers should avoid the water, and all beachgoers should exercise extreme caution.
Coastal residents and visitors in Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties are advised of dangerous rip currents and high surf conditions. A Rip Current Statement and High Surf Advisory have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, effective immediately.
The Rip Current Statement indicates a high risk of dangerous rip currents through Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2026, at 6:00 PM CDT. These currents can pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The High Surf Advisory warns of large breaking waves up to 5 feet in the surf zone, effective until 3:00 PM CDT this afternoon, October 10, 2026. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to these dangerous conditions.
Impacts include dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. For safety, the NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If escape is not possible, face the shore and call or wave for help.
