A Storm Surge Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, for Okaloosa Coastal areas, including Destin, Eglin AFB, and Fort Walton Beach. This warning is in effect as of October 9 at 3:55 PM CDT and highlights an immediate, extreme threat.

Residents in these areas should prepare for life-threatening conditions. Peak winds of 95-115 mph with gusts up to 140 mph are forecast, equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane. Hurricane force winds are expected until early Saturday morning. Potential for wind greater than 110 mph remains. Shelter immediately from these life-threatening winds. Be ready to move to the safest interior part of your shelter.

Life-threatening storm surge of 6-9 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. If necessary, move to upper floors to escape rising water.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Emergency plans should account for extensive flooding. Additionally, a favorable situation for several tornadoes exists. Stay informed and move quickly to the safest place within your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
