North Hempstead Launches 'America 250' Website
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 28, 2026 MEDIA CONTACTS: Umberto Mignardi, Sean P. Dolan, Amanda Martins, Michael Anderson [email protected] ; (516) 869-7794 North Hempstead Launches New “America 250” Website Central Source for All Town-wide Anniversary Events Manhasset, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and the Town Board recently announced the launch of the Town’s new “America 250” website at www.northhempsteadny.live. The new site will serve as a central source for events, programs, and initiatives celebrating the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. As one of the largest and most diverse municipalities on Long Island, the Town of North Hempstead—home to more than 230,000 residents and 31 incorporated villages—continues to build innovative ways to connect its communities and celebrate their shared history. “This America 250 site is a one-stop destination for everything happening across our Town as we commemorate this milestone,” said Supervisor DeSena. “From Town-wide fireworks to local village activities, we want to be sure every resident has the opportunity to participate.” Supervisor DeSena has invited all incorporated villages within North Hempstead as well as local civic and community organizations to partner in the effort by submitting their own events to be featured on the Town website. The platform provides resources for residents and is a service to villages and community stakeholders, offering them expanded visibility, coordination, and promotion of local programming. North Hempstead’s new website is designed to bring all local programming together in one, easily accessible location. Residents, community organizations, and visitors will be able to find information about celebrations, educational opportunities, cultural events, and civic initiatives taking place throughout North Hempstead. “America 250” celebrates the founding of the United States and centers around the Declaration of Independence which was signed on July 4, 1776. Governments and municipalities around the nation have planned numerous semiquincentennial events and programs to highlight the nation’s history and reflect on the nation’s achievements. “Each of our neighborhoods is going to host special events for our country’s birthday, so working together is key,” added Councilman Dennis Walsh. “More important, this brings people from every walk of life and background together along with a shared pride in what really matters and what connects us as Americans.” Village officials and community partners are encouraged to share event details and updates via email at: [email protected]. Submissions will be reviewed by the Town and added to the site, as approved. Residents are invited to explore the America 250 landing page, which can also be found on the Town website at www.northhempsteadny.gov as it will be frequently updated as new events and initiatives are announced. Call 311 to learn more. ###

East Hills Earns Tree City USA Recognition
Village of East Hills Earns 2025 Tree City USA Recognition From Arbor Day Foundation EAST HILLS, NY (April 21, 2026) – We are pleased to announce that The Arbor Day Foundation has named the Village of East Hills a 2025 Tree City USA in honor of its continued commitment to planting, growing, and maintaining trees to benefit the community. “The Village of East Hills is proud to be recognized as a Tree City USA community,” said Mayor Michael Koblenz. “Our ongoing investment in tree planting, maintenance, and environmental stewardship helps preserve the natural beauty of our village and park and enhances the quality of life for our residents.” The Village will host its Arbor Day ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 4:15 pm at The Park at East Hills. The Arbor Day Foundation is a global nonprofit with a mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. Its network of more than one million supporters and partners has helped the organization plant more than 500 million trees in forests and communities across more than 60 countries. In villages and neighborhoods, trees are proven to help mitigate the urban heat island effect, reduce stormwater runoff, improve air quality, and boost mental and physical health. When the right trees are planted in the right places, they can also reduce traffic noise, increase property values, and lower energy costs for homeowners.

National Fallen Firefighter Memorial
"To honor America’s fallen firefighters and their families, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, all United States flags will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset in observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. This memorial is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives while serving as firefighters, and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation was established by the United States Congress to lead a nationwide effort in this regard. Since its creation in 1992, the Foundation has been working to develop and expand programs to honor and support the families and colleagues of fallen firefighters, and to ensure that their sacrifice is never forgotten.
