ULS and ADCP: ASL Chukchi Data: Current, Ice Velocity, Source Book Data, Water Properties, Waves
Shell Exploration & Production Company (Shell) initiated offshore deployments of Upward Looking Sonar and Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers in the Beaufort Sea starting in 2005 and the Chukchi Sea starting in 2008. ASL Environmental Sciences Inc. was tasked with executing field surveys related to the following subjects: ice keel depth, ice velocity and ocean current profile measurements. Analysis and report writing were carried out through 2014. Field survey data is also included from ConocoPhillips and Statoil Chukchi Sea mooring deployments in the Chukchi Sea for the 2008-2012 period. Data available through this record include current, ice velocity, source book data, water properties and waves. See link below for associated ULS/ADCP records. All field data from the Shell, ConocoPhillips and Statoil programs are also available via NOAA at http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/accession/0093399. Please provide credit to ASL Environmental Sciences Inc. for authorship of the field data and map products. Funding partners have granted approval for early release and/or release to the public domain of these data.

Wrangell Municipal Light & Power Transitions to Diesel Generation October 1st
PUBLIC NOTICE Wrangell Municipal Light & Power will be going to diesel generation starting October 1st, 2023. As you know, our hydroelectric generation system has had some issues this past year. In order to provide reliable power to the community, we will be starting up our diesel generators on October 1st, 2023. This will be a temporary situation until we can get our hydroelectric system repaired and back to normal operations. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.
Water Shutoff Alert for Church Street and Bevier Street Residents in Wrangell
The City and Borough of Wrangell Public Works Department will be shutting off water to Church Street and Bevier St. for necessary repairs. Please be advised that water service will be interrupted for an indefinite period to allow Public Works to complete this critical maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Wrangell Planning Department Offers Key Services for Development
The Planning Department is responsible for administering and enforcing the borough's zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations, and other land use controls. Services include: * **Zoning Information and Permits:** Assistance with understanding zoning regulations and obtaining necessary permits for construction, renovation, or changes in land use. * **Subdivision Review:** Processing applications for the division of land into smaller parcels. * **Building Permits:** Issuing permits for new construction, additions, and alterations to ensure compliance with building codes. * **Comprehensive Planning:** Developing and updating the borough's long-range plans for community growth and development. * **Economic Development:** Supporting initiatives that promote business growth and diversification within Wrangell. Wrangell Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting Scheduled
The Planning & Zoning Commission meets regularly to review and act on applications for zoning changes, conditional use permits, subdivisions, and other land use matters. The Commission also plays a role in recommending amendments to the borough's Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance. Public participation is encouraged at all meetings. Wrangell Municipal Light & Power (WMLP) will be going to diesel generation starting this afternoon, December 5, 2023. This is due to an unforeseen outage at the upstream hydroelectric facility. WMLP is working to restore hydroelectric generation as soon as possible. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

City of Wainwright The City of Wainwright retains the powers and responsibilities for Municipal Administration, Recreation, Boat Harbors and Cemeteries. Under these powers, the City provides municipal administration as a second class city under Title 29, has operated a grant funded Youth Program and summer Youth Cultural Camp since 2007, operates Homemaker Services for Elders funded by a North Slope Borough grant, provides a City park for community recreation, provides community cultural and recreational events for the City such as the July 4 and Christmas Games, Piuraagiaqta (Spring Whaling Festival), and recently began operating Gaming/Pull tabs.
