Residents along the Northern Arctic Coast, Central Beaufort Sea Coast, and Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast should prepare for periods of snow and blowing snow through Friday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) Fairbanks has issued a Special Weather Statement effective today, September 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM AKDT, expiring on October 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM AKDT.

Snowfall totals between Wednesday and Friday are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches, with isolated areas experiencing up to 6 inches under persistent heavier snow. Winds will be strongest today near Utqiagvik (Barrow). Stronger winds are anticipated Thursday night into Friday from Nuiqsut to Kaktovik, with gusts up to 30 mph. These winds may lead to areas of blowing and drifting snow, potentially reducing visibility.

The NWS advises caution for travel due to reduced visibility from blowing snow.
